Lipomas

Many of you have seen the ugly lumps I had on my forearms. They were lipomas (or in other words, big balls of fat under my skin). This week I had the biggest ones cut off. Here are some before shots.

First they gave me a shot of lydocane (spelling?) to numb the area. That needle was big and did not feel very good. But that was the only painful part and it worked really fast. As soon as the doctor gave me the shot he started cutting the skin. Then he had some tweezer like instrument and pulled and tugged until the fat came out. And that's exactly what it looked like too. It just looked like curly fat on a piece of meat. Then he sewed me up. He took out five of them and I still have a bunch of little ones. But at least they are not so visible. He also said they are very common on arms and backs. My grandmother is the only person I had known before this that had them. Now I hear all sorts of people that have them. Here are what they look like right now with the stitches in them. (Photography by Darren Clark)

The stitches in my arms are kind of hard to see. But that is what I'm trying to show in the above photos. Sorry, I don't have a picture of my lipomas.

Ethan didn't want to be left out. He had to show his spongebob bandaid.

We didn't even know those lumps existed on you--you're a brave woman!!! Carl wants to know if your doctor can pull out all his fat?!!

I have a couple of them on my arm. I would also like the fat taken off of other places of my body.

Carl, it was my OB/GYN that took them off. I don't think they're used to men patients in their office.
And I wish they could take more fat off my body but I think that would have to be a different doctor and a lot more money.

I have a lapoma on my arm too!!! Grandpa Bartholomew gets them as well. I can't get mine removed because it is near an artary without putting me under...oh well!

Your just a lumpy person! I'm glad you had them taken off. They were begining to be very noticable. It's got to have come from the Bartholomew side, don't you think?

It can't be just from the Bartholomew side because I have one on my arm too. Looks like your Dr. did a good job.

I noticed a lipoma just below my ribcage. It was removed about 3 years ago, now I feel 3 more, big ones and one right by the pelvis, and this one really hurts. Sometimes it cramps up and it pulls very hard and painful.
I know we have to live with this because there is no cure or preventions.
