If you have been following Darren's blog lately, you'll know that he has been photographing potato harvest. One night this week he came home with a gift one of the farmers had given him. Blue potatoes. For Sunday dinner today we tried them out.
The blue potato with skin.
The blue potato peeled.
Mashed blue potatoes. Darren, Kevin and I weren't hesitant to try it but Ethan was. He thought it looked like frosting and frosting with gravy or butter did not sound very appetizing to him. He finally tried it and the potatoes were gone by the end of dinner. They tasted just like white mashed potatoes. Purple potatoes with brown gravy doesn't look very pretty, however.

That is very interesting! I would wonder about the color. I had white mashed potatoes today. Where do they market blue potatoes?
Idaho?
Looks like a great Halloween dish to me!!!
I have never heard of that before. Ethan's right though....it looks like frosting!
LOVE IT! How fun!!!! I gotta get me some of those.
That is awesome.....how fun!
I've never heard of that. Perfect for Halloween.
Wow, that's cool!
We planted purple carrots this spring. They really did turn out purple. Very funny about the potatoes. I had never heard of those.
Wow, I want to try those mashed potatos. Next time I'm in Idaho, I'm stopp'n in for some. -Maile
do they taste the exact same as regular ones????
Wow! I think they look really pretty! Although I can see how the brown gravy would kind-of change that:).
